Mobile phones… we can barely live without them. Back in the days we used them to call people, then it was possible to communicate via text, after that we were able to use the internet and now that 2019 is just around the corner, the smartphone contains functions we could only ever dream of. Smartphones are starting to turn into very portable laptops that provide us with everything we want or need. What are the biggest and newest smartphone trends for 2019?

  1. Foldable phone

After talking about if for years and years, the time has finally come. Huawei and Samsung are busy developing their very first foldable smartphones. Experts speculate the screen to be tablet sized while fully unfolded. Besides this the smartphones are equipped with the newest processors, meaning Huawei will have the Kirin 980 processor and Samsung the Exynos 9820 processor. Even though we have not been given specific prices for the foldable phones yet, they are believed to be sold for approximately 1500 – 2000 euros. If you’re not willing to spend this big of an amount on a phone, try buying it at a lower price. Refurbished phones or second hand phones are a good alternative.

  1. 5G

The fifth network type, or the follow-up of 4G, or one of the biggest trends to be in 2019 is already starting to tingle my impatient brain. The first 5G networks in the world have already entered the market and are more successful than anything else. With the arrival of 5G we are right to expect higher speeds, but above all it should be better suited for new applications such as connected cars and smart cities. Slowly but surely the 5G techniques will be implemented in everything ‘smart’.

  1. The Game-smartphone

After the Razer Phone’s success, many different smartphones for gamers have been developed. When you think of it, it’s not that weird. Smartphones are becoming more and more powerful, hence why gaming on those devices is starting to get more popular. Companies like Samsung, Apple and Huawei are now also trying to convince the consumer that their phones are suitable for gaming as well.

Why was the Razor Phone such a success? The 5,7 inch screen has a 120 Hz refresh rate, which is pleasant for gamers. The phone is praised for its Dolby Atmos-sound, the dual-camera and now contains a much asked for cooling system as well.

There’s no doubt about it, you’ll be hearing much more about these trends next year. Even though most of these new products will probably turn out to be very expensive, they’re worth saving up for. I’d say: let’s start putting some money aside!
